During the summer term class 2 have been researching and discovering about migration during their topic lessons and linked to their English. We have had some fantastic examples of poetry based on injustice from class 2 during this topic. We have used Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Still I Rise’ for inspiration.
As a Church of England school, we encourage a lot of opportunities for self-reflection for the children. We do this in a multitude of ways such as through our discussions in class and worship, using written self-reflection journals daily and the children have been developing a spiritual area outside which they have created sculptures for based on values which are important to them and inspired by the sculptor Anish Kapoor. Following on from creating our sculptures we had a visit from Adella Webb, who taught the children about mosaics. The children have created some beautiful pieces which will brighten up the spiritual area along with the flowers that the gardening group have been growing.
We have also been able to welcome Reverend Leigh back into school last week as he delivered a worship based on our school focus value this term of friendship. Inspired by these worships, some of class 2 have volunteered to lead a worship. The children planned, rehearsed and delivered worship to the whole school.
Following on from our sessions with Mrs Jolliffe last half term within our music sessions we have been learning about following musical notes to play instruments such as glockenspiels to our music.
The year 5 and 6 children in class 2 braved the rainy weather to develop their bike riding skills during Bikeability sessions. The children were able to assess if their bikes were roadworthy and how to keep themselves safe whilst riding a bike out on the road.
