TEACHER: Mr Thomas
Foundation Stage (EYFS), Years 1 and 2
Welcome to class 1.
Children begin each morning with an early morning challenge, this will review and consolidate our English and maths learning and provide opportunities for the children to ask and answer questions on areas they are finding difficult or help to extend their learning with further challenges.
Our morning sessions in class 1 allow children to practice, use and apply their knowledge and understanding of spelling, grammar and writing in English as well as develop their problem solving, explanations, reasoning and calculations in our mathematics lessons. All children are taught phonics daily using the letters and sounds program and this is developed further through our writing and guided reading sessions in the afternoon. Our year 2 children also follow the 'No nonsense spelling' program that extends their learning further to develop prefixes and suffixes.
The EYFS provision for children in class 1 also extends to our outside learning environment were the children are encouraged to explore a range of activities that build upon and develop the children's learning further.
Our afternoon activities provide opportunities for the children to explore learning in our topic specific areas which look at history and geography, science, music, design and technology, art and physical education.
As a Church of England school, the Christian values are prominent in our curriculum. Children attend worship once a day and this is then referred to throughout our learning. We also attend our local village church regularly giving the children lots of opportunity to reflect on their beliefs.
Children in year 1 and 2 can also participate in our various after school clubs which run each week from 3:30 to 4:30pm.
