Theatre Alibi- 'I Believe in Unicorns'

13/11/2019

On Wednesday 13th November, the children had the opportunity to watch a live performance of Micheal Morpurgo's "I Believe in Unicorns" by the fantastic Theatre Alibi.  The children were mesmerised by the characters and it raised awareness of the importance of reading as well as loosing themselves in a world of fantasy.  The children commented on 'how awesome' the performance was and that they were 'sad that it came to an end'.  We hope that it will inspire more children to get involved in the school book track reading scheme and 'loose themselves' in a book during break times.

Welcome to our KS2 class

26/9/2019

TEACHER: Mrs Stefanie Lee
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Our school day begins with an early morning challenge which will be either maths, grammar, handwriting or spelling activity. The children have the opportunity to complete this independently and then we review this as a whole class . As the children are older, we encourage them to come into the classroom independently and begin this task after reading through the instructions on the board.
We also provide opportunities for children to have small group interventions or keep up/pre teach sessions to ensure that all children are reaching their full potential.
Our morning sessions begin with developing our writing, grammar and spelling and children are given opportunities to develop specific age related techniques. After break-time,  the children return to class for their maths lessons which consist of 15 minutes of daily fluency as well as developing their understanding, reasoning and explanation of numbers and the number system, shape, space and measures.
As a Church of England school, the Christian values are prominent in our curriculum. Children attend worship once a day and this is then referred to throughout our learning. We also attend our local village church regularly giving the children lots of opportunity to reflect on their beliefs.
To begin our afternoons the children participate in a guided reading carousel which they follow to enhance their love of reading. This allows them to discuss and reflect upon books which they have read, independently and with group support. Following that, the children explore the curriculum through a wide variety of subjects such as; R.E,  history, geography, science, PE, music, art, design and technology.

Foundation Stage (EYFS), Years 1 and 2

Welcome to class 1.

Children begin each morning with an early morning challenge, this will review and consolidate our English and maths learning and provide opportunities for the children to ask and answer questions on areas they are finding difficult or help to extend their learning with further challenges.

Our morning sessions in class 1 allow children to practice, use and apply their knowledge and understanding of spelling, grammar and writing in English as well as develop their problem solving, explanations, reasoning and calculations  in our mathematics lessons.  All children are taught phonics daily using the letters and sounds program and this is developed further through our writing and guided reading sessions in the afternoon.  Our year 2 children also follow the 'No nonsense spelling' program that extends their learning further to develop prefixes and suffixes.
The EYFS provision for children in class 1 also extends to our outside learning environment were the children are encouraged to explore a range of activities that build upon and develop the children's learning further.
Our afternoon activities provide opportunities for the children to explore learning in our topic specific areas which look at history and geography, science, music, design and technology, art and physical education.
As a Church of England school, the Christian values are prominent in our curriculum. Children attend worship once a day and this is then referred to throughout our learning. We also attend our local village church regularly giving the children lots of opportunity to reflect on their beliefs.

Children in year 1 and 2 can also participate in our various after school clubs which run each week from 3:30 to 4:30pm.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Welcome to Class Two and the Spring Term.

This term we will be exploring the Vikings.  The children will be looking at what countries the Vikings invaded, the clothes they wore, food they ate and the Gods they worshipped.  We will also be creating our own weaponry and taking part in our own Viking battle on the playground!  Our Friday afternoons will be dedicated to art and design and the children we design, create and produce their own Viking Longships.

Our mornings will focus on handwriting practice, English, spelling and grammar and our learning will centre around a book or film extract.  The children will have opportunities to explore a range of writing and produce their own stories, poetry and non fiction texts for a purpose.  We will also develop our deeper thinking in maths everyday, particular focusing on our reasoning and making connections with numbers.

Our afternoon sessions include French, Science (this term focus is our body and how it works), PE ( progression in hockey and dance) .

Art Classes

18/10/2016

The children throughout the school have a weekly opportunity to explore a variety of media and develop skills in drawing, painting, printing, textiles, clay work and 3D modelling. They work from observation and imagination, solve problems and explore the work of other artists and designers. They are encouraged to talk about their experiences. Their creative work enriches ongoing work in other areas of the curriculum.
