KS2 English Learning

29/4/2022

We have begun our new English topic of persuasive writing and I have been extremely impressed with the persuasiveness during some of the children's arguments. The children have identified lots of features which they would expect to see in persuasive writing and have made links with the importance of continuing the use of grammatical features we have previously used in our writing, such as including modal verbs.
I hope you are prepared to listen to some well-reasoned arguments as the children have already begun to make people question their original stance.

SATS Preparation

29/4/2022

Children in year 6 have been showing great enthusiasm, determination and commitment with their learning. They have attended 'SATS Keep Up Club' so that they can revise topics which will be covered in their SATs. It is great to see how they have persevered with this and we are looking forward to our breakfast club from 9th -12th May, where we can start our days with a breakfast together and ensure that everyone is feeling calm and relaxed.

National Young Leaders

29/4/2022

This year the School Council and Ethos Leaders have been joined the National Young Leaders Award. They have been focussing on LEAD.
Love
Example
Action
Dream

The focus for the session this week was about action and how to prepare to take actions. They learned about Mya-Rose Craig (BirdGirl) who is a wildlife champion and has devoted a huge amount of time to protect the most endangered wild birds. Due to her commitments, she has become the youngest person to receive an honorary doctorate. The children learnt that they are the young voice of our world and no-one can hold it against them and that by believing this they are able to be the light of the world to shine through any dark. The children also learned about Jack Monroe and Shiden Tekle who are inspirational leaders and have felt inspired and realised how lucky they are. From this meeting, the children have identified topics which they would like to focus on and feel empowered to stand up and take action for what they believe in.

Wildlife Champions

29/4/2022

The wildlife champions were eager to discover the creatures and animals that come out at night around Northlew. They convinced Sarah, the wildlife champion leader, to borrow a night-time camera, which is extremely in demand and set this up on the playing field. They were able to spot the culprit of who has been pooing in our field! They captured some fantastic images of foxes, pictured below. They have also been inspecting how many bugs there are in one scoop of dirt by using a microscope and found a huge amount, they were really surprised by this and how small they were. They are eager to begin a new project in a overgrown area of the playing field after being inspired by their clearing of the brambles to create the spiritual area.
